Ansonia Lumber Sponsors Toy Contest to Benefit Needy Children

Ansonia-Scott Phillips, host of the popular PBS television program THE AMERICAN WOODSHOP, will judge the 19th annual Toys-for-Tots Toy Contest, hosted by The Ansonia Lumber Co.

Crafters are urged to bring their handmade wooden toys to Ansonia Lumber between now and December 15th. The entries will be on display until judging at 9:30am, December 15th. Contestants are encouraged to enter as many toys as they wish but will be eligible for only one prize. All entries will become the property of Toys-for-Tots, and will be distributed to needy children. Mr. Phillips will base his judging upon style, orginality, quality, and how they would appeal to a child. The public is invited to attend the judging and see the toys.

The prizes, donated by Ansonia Lumber Co. are, Grand Prize: $150.00 Ansonia Lumber gift certificate; second prize: $100.00 Ansonia Lumber gift certificate; third prize: Dremel cordless 7.2v kit.

Scott Phillips is in his fourth decade of woodworking. He started in his father’s shop when he was eleven. The first moneymaking projects were air-dried walnut shelved and boxed. These projects led into furtniture and restoration commissions. Furtniture repair work quickly led to a passion around antique furniture. Scott considers Chippendale and Shaker furniture styles his favorite source for design inspiration. His approach: study the best then make furniture using correct techniques. He is the host of the television show THE AMERICAN WOODSHOP which will soon be airing its 19th season. The program is now broadcast on more than 370 television stations and reach 5 million viewers each week. THE AMERICAN WOODSHOP can be seen locally on Saturdays at 11:00am on WPTD channel 16.
